This is the third year that we have purchased this lot, each version slightly different than the last, not too dissimilar from the many monikers of Venus. Venus Calva, or Venus the bald one, a Roman epithet signifies the virtuous offering by matrons during a siege of Rome. These matrons were said to have made bowstrings of their own hair to assist in the siege. Venus is otherwise known as the goddess of love, sex and beauty, an emblem of female empowerment, fiercely impenitent about her sexuality and femininity. La Venus is naturally processed, encouraging the fermentation of only the ripest coffee cherries, drying them on raised beds and allowing the development of rich and complex flavours to permeate the beans. You’ll find your brew oozes notes of sea foam from which a fully grown Venus was birthed, tasting of freeze-dried strawberries, papaya and tangerine.
