Sipi falls is also one of the most established coffee producing regions in Uganda, and in its peak in the 70s was responsible for helping replace much of the world's coffee shortfall when Brazil experienced devastating frost damage. Investment and infrastructure from large coffee exporters flooded the region - some of these facilities are still utilised today, but many are now left abandoned and a cold reminder of the temporary and exploitative way coffee is often acquired. Sipi Falls coffee producers are some of the most experienced in Uganda, but also wary of coffee buyers and being taken advantage of. The Ugandan led Zukuka Bora team have made great strides in establishing trust in the region, with constant presence on the ground and more recently with the purchase of land for a buying station and processing facility. The experience of the resident producers has helped accelerate Zukuka Bora’s development and quality beyond expectations, particularly with alternative processing methods like Jose. The ripe cherry is picked and dried on raised beds, turned regularly and monitored constantly reaching the desired moisture percentage. Over the years Jose has consistently had ripe mango aromas, an intense sweetness like muscat and a ripe stone fruit acidity. This coffee is imported by us directly from our partners in Uganda, Zukuka Bora. We are very proud to see this coffee improve each year and represent and celebrate a new global reputation for excellent specialty coffee from Uganda.

DEEP DIVE +

PRODUCER : Zukuka Bora

CROP YEAR : 2023

COUNTRY : UGANDA

REGION : Sipi Falls

ELEVATION : 2000 MASL

VARIETAL : SL14 & SL28

PROCESSING : NATURAL

IMPORTER/PARTNER : Commonfolk

GEO TAG DOWNLOAD PDF

ESPRESSO RECIPE +

ESPRESSO MACHINE
This is just a starting place.
