Tucked away on the North-West Side of Mt Elgon at an elevation of over 2000 metres above sea level, the coffee growing conditions of Sipi Falls are ideal. The region has developed a reputation for producing the very best of Uganda’s arabica coffee. Ken, Zukuka Bora’s Sipi Falls manager, is working with farmers to improve quality with selective harvesting and better processing methods. Farmers bring cherry to the Zukuka Bora site where it is floated and visually inspected before drying. Zukuka Bora aims to pay the highest price for cherry on the mountain, followed by a bonus, but also requires the best quality cherry. Farmers are paid on the day for cherry, unlike other mills which defer payment until later in the season, which ensures the money goes directly to the farmers and their families. The ripest cherry is selected for natural processing. It is dried on raised beds and turned regularly. The aromas are that of ripe mango and tropical fruits. On the palate you can find intense sweetness, blackforrest and ripe stone fruits. The name and artwork are inspired by our favourite Ugandan pop star Jose Chamelone. Sipi on this delicious coffee while listening to those sweet afrobeat sounds.

DEEP DIVE +

PRODUCER : Zukuka Bora

CROP YEAR : 2021

COUNTRY : UGANDA

REGION : Sipi Falls

ELEVATION : 2000 MASL

VARIETAL : SL14 & SL28

PROCESSING : NATURAL

IMPORTER/PARTNER : Commonfolk

GEO TAG DOWNLOAD PDF

ESPRESSO RECIPE +

ESPRESSO MACHINE
This is just a starting place.
