La Guitarra is one of the many farms owned by this operation, now in its third generation of passionate coffee producers.</span><span data-mce-fragment="1"><span class="Apple-tab-span" data-mce-fragment="1"> </span></span><span data-mce-fragment="1"> </span><span data-mce-fragment="1"><span class="Apple-tab-span" data-mce-fragment="1"> </span></span><span data-mce-fragment="1"> </span></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;" data-mce-style="font-weight: 400;">Jorge Vides was a doctor and patriarch of the Vides family. In 1958, he bought a piece of land, surrounded by forests, in La Libertad, Huehuetenango. It was here that he founded his family’s very first coffee farm, Finca La Bolsa, planting it out with beautiful Bourbon and Caturra varieties protected by the warm, dry winds from the Tehuantepec plain. Ever since, the wonderful Vides family has been a force to be reckoned with in speciality Guatemalan coffee production. Milling, grading, bagging and preparing their own coffee for export, the family receives the entire FOB price for their product.</span></p> <p>Back in 2002, and with little knowledge of just how good their coffee was, general manager, Maria Vides and her son Renardo Ovalle decided to submit their coffee to the prestigious Cup of Excellence competition. They did incredibly well, placing second. This international vote of confidence kicked the Vides family into action. They now own multiple coffee farms, all of which produce the same, beautiful quality of coffee for which they are widely known.<br></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;" data-mce-style="font-weight: 400;">With a staunch commitment to sustainability, the Vides family integrates environmentally friendly practices and supports local communities by building schools and sharing their rich agronomy knowledge. We’re constantly impressed by how much Maria and her family invest back into their community.</span></p> <p><span>To learn more about Transparency in coffee pricing and why it's so important, check out our </span><a title="Transparency Project" href="https://www.rumblecoffee.com.au/blogs/transparency-project/2018-transparency-report">Transparency Project</a><span>.</span><br></p> <div class="description bottom"> <div data-et-tabs-width="108" data-et-flx="0" data-et-amp="0" data-et-sta="1" data-et-cbr="3" data-et-cbw="1" data-et-auto-accordion="1" data-et-min-width="3000" class="easytabs-container tab-widget-4501663547495 easytabs-inited"> <div class="easytabs-holder easytabs-accordion"> <div class="easytabs-contents"> <div data-et-handle="tabs-description" data-et-marker="tabs-rwanda-maries-coffee-filter-2" class="easytabs-content-item easytabs-active"> <div class="easytabs-content-holder"></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div>
